Wilhelm Ganz scrapbook, 1857-1914 (bulk 1898-1908).

Contains more than 330 items, chiefly clippings from the British press 1898-1908, but also including full length articles. Most of the material concerns Ganz's Jubilee Concert, June 7, 1898 and his Diamond Jubilee Concert, May 26, 1908, including a typescript titled: "Lady Bancroft's speech at Mr. Wilhelm Ganz' Diamond Jubilee Concert, Queen's Hall, May 26th, 1908. The two earliset items are programs from Ganz's conducting career, a concert May 23, 1857 for the anniversary of St. Mary's Hospital at the London Tavern and a June 27, 1860 concert for the first anniversary of the London Surgical Home at St. James's Hall. Two postcards to Ganz's daughter Georgina are also included.

Adelina Patti was one of the most highly regarded opera singers of the 19th century. From the description of Adelina Patti letters, 1889-1891. (Louisiana State University). Wilhelm Ganz was a conductor, pianist, organist, violinist, and composer born in Mainz, Germany in 1833. HIs father Adolf Ganz was Kapellmeister of the Mainz Opera. Father and son visited London in 1848 and emigrated there in 1851. Wilhelm Ganz earned his reputation as an accompanist of famous singers, including Jenny Lind and Adelina Patti. He became sole conductor of Henry Wylde's New Philharmonic Society orchestra in 1879, changing the concert presentations to "Mr. Ganz's Orchestral Concerts"...
